Jasper, 25" x 18", cut wool strips and yarn, hoooked and knitted on linen. Designed and created by Diane Krys, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, 2012.
I used to visit yarn stores with my knitting friends and count myself lucky that I didn’t knit. Freedom from temptation: I’m weak willed in the face of beautiful fiber. I imagined if I were an actual knitter immersed in shops full of seductive yarns that my brain would simply short circuit and I’d pass out. I’d wake up, broke and homeless, living in a soft cloud of hand-dyed luxury yarn down by the river. Well, I’m a knitter and a rug hooker now, and it’s all good. I still have a roof over my head, and a small soft cloud has settled in my home studio right next to my rug hooking stash.
