Noel Holly Basket, designed and hooked by Connie Litfin and Marti Taylor, Indianapolis, Indiana, 2008.
After nearly 400 daily posts about various aspects of rug hooking, I was on the lookout for something to accelerate reader participation and interaction on my internet teaching blog. But, with readership scattered all over the world, the logistics and cost of such a project were daunting. I couldn’t figure out how to get everyone on the same page. Then my copy of Rug Hooking magazine arrived and it dawned on me that every issue includes a free pattern insert. All I had to do was get my blog readers to agree on a pattern, and then each student could transfer the design to whichever backing he or she liked and the Internet class could begin.
We chose Noel Holly Basket, from Mustard Seed Primitives, which was featured in the
November/December 2008 issue of
RHM. Connie Litfin and Marti Taylor, designers for Mustard Seed Primitives, gave their permission for participants to use or adapt the pattern to best serve their needs. Connie even participated in the blog hook-in.
