Rae Harrell approaches art in much the same way she approaches life: with a fearless pursuit of her own bold, bright vision. If she isn’t in her studio creating art in Hinesburg, Vermont, you may find her in India visiting temples as part of her spiritual studies or in the vast Nevada desert celebrating self-expression at the annual Burning Man gathering. She has traveled throughout the United States, Canada, and the UK teaching her unique approach to designing and executing hooked rugs. In 2008, she was honored as one of the featured artists at Green Mountain Rug Hooking Guild’s show, Hooked in the Mountains.
Rugs designed and hooked by Rae are distinct in the intense values of bright colors that emerge from her dye pots and the often dramatically larger scale. Rae enjoys hooking figures- intensely lush, feminine women who are beautifully clad and elegantly coifed. She has also explored femininity by hooking dramatic, strong nudes. Rae expresses a deep respect for the beauty of feminine form through her rugs.
