Rug Hooking Lite

B. J. Andreas

Necessity is truly the mother of invention. When my doctor told me that I couldn’t rug hook for five months after surgery on my right shoulder, I didn’t think that I could stop for that long. Hooking is such excellent therapy; I would miss it terribly.

That’s when novelty yarns came to mind. With their light weight and small diameter, these pretty yarns wouldn’t be as difficult to pull through the backing as #8-cut wool, easing the stress on my shoulder. The version of “lite” rug hooking was the key to helping me through my recovery.

I chose Calypso, designed by Melissa Elliott. She printed it out for me on 19” x 34” rectangular linen, about two-thirds of its original size.
