Rug Hooking Magazine

Old burlap patterns are often brittle and weak--too weak to use for our beloved rugs. We prefer to use more sturdy backings, new fabrics that will last for years. So what can we do with those old patterns? Some of them are printed with color and they are charming. I’ve collected a couple of them and I display them on the wall of my hooking room. Recently, as a way to enjoy these old patterns, I started painting the burlap designs with acrylic paints. Here’s how I do it.
