Wintery Rugs

Carting Snow
Inspired by old hooked rugs from Quebec, and French Canada: Pictures and Stories of Quebec by Hazel Boswell (1938). This rug depicts the traditional technique of snow removal by horse and snow cart. In the background are the majestic St. Lawrence River and Mont Sainte-Anne.

January Ice
This piece was "January" for a calendar of "Transportation: Mind, Body, Spirit" organized by Burma Cassidy for Hooked in the Mountains, 2009. I admire figure skating, but could never get beyond the chair-pushing level (see chair lower left). However, my mind has transported my body in this piece to allow a spirit of an accomplished skater.

Cheerful Snowman
We haven't had any snow in central VA, this year. I hooked this cheerful Snowman with the critters that would surround him in my yard.  It may be the only snow we have this winter!!

The Boys in Winter
My boys, Edward and Bug, love to watch winter days and nights together. They are 9-year-old twins, and are very snuggley with each other, so I've shown them "arm-in-arm". They are so fun!

First Snow
From a native Californian, the idea of a first snowfall fills me with childlike exhuberance.  I wanted to express that feeling along with one of my favorite quotes "Dance like no one is watching" in this rug.  I am self taught and this was only my third rug as well as my first attempt at hooking a person.  It was a lot of fun to hook and I am very pleased with it.  I hope you like it too.  Primitive rug hooking is my passion.
