I like mixed tans and beiges.

decorative pillow,

I love medium values of blues and greens .

I use beiges, tans a lot in the background.

I would use shades of beige for the background

I starting to gravitate to deep browns.

Sometimes I love the warmth of the lights - with many different lights mixed together. Sometimes I love the scrumptious depth of textured browns. Then there are the darks that create a rug with magic in the background - magic that can make a rug look antique, traditional, and exquisite. There are so many beautiful wools, so many colors and when I hook them - each one becomes my new favorite.

I like the pop of black, with blue being second

Blues, blues, always blues!

Variegated blues

My favourite background is a warm collection of beiges, tan and camel wools, including small checks, as in the attached Karen Kahle design. However, I also love a dark background for other rugs, and the excitement that plaid and textured wools give to a rug.

I have used a very dark background in the past, like charcoal black and chestnut brown but lately have had a lot of fun with the lighter hand dyed or even some glen plaids. It is really fun to let the wool do the work and find the shadows and highlights. Really interesting results.

Blues are a favorite background colour. I love to overdye to get richness and variety, combining with different values and textures gives lots of delight for the eye.

I love blues

I love purples for a background!

In addition to hooking rugs, I am a watercolorist, so I tend to make my backgrounds full of life and detail as I would in a painting. Since I do a lot of landscape/floral/outdoor-sy designs, my backgrounds tend to be greens for the vegetation behind my focal point and blues for the skies. Having an interesting background to hook--to me--not only makes hooking the background more interesting, but makes the rug more interesting, too.

Fabric selection would depend on foreground theme. The blues and whites would create a beautiful sky or a scenic winter wonderland. The darker checks hooked would add textural interest to a land scape background mixed in with some greens. Or spot dye some of these woolens to make an interesting background.

I would select a medium gray as the background.

oatmeal

I love using different shades of blues, mauve and shades of green, depending on the design I'm working on.

For floor mats I tend to use overdyed fabrics, mostly blacks with other color undertones. For lanscspes skies with pale blues with hints of pinks and lavender.

I tend to use a fair amount of blue as most backgrounds are landscapes. But I am a bit quirky and tend to go for grey skies as well.

I seem to use blue quite a bit for my backgrounds most of the time but sometimes I use black to emphasis the other colors.

Id like a mixture of blues

Beautiful, quality wool for use in a future project.

I've always been a blue girl.

Love the blues and greens!

I like blues and greens for scenes of water, but I love off-white for backgrounds.

While new, I've done a lot of houses so far - so a blue sky with fluffy white clouds seems to be my go-to.

Blues and neutrals are my favorite. Thank you for the chance! I am enjoying my subscription!

I like a pale orange or burgundy. I use a lot of turquoise in my rugs.

Even though I'm just beginning again after a 10 year hiatus, I usually prefer the light neutral colors.

I really like a greenish black as a background

Shades of blue are my go-to for background.

It looks nice.

I haven't hooked many rugs yet but certainly do enjoy it! My favorites are greens and blues!

I would use the greys and whites for a winter sky and some of the blues to show the blue sky peeking out.

I would use the blues here for a background, because there are several and would look interesting if blended. I just received an order of wool textures from Dorr, from their sale. Wonderful!

A great mix for someone who loves dyeing wool. So many wonderful possibilities.

I love deep greens like Spruce green with some mottling to add variety and dimension. I love hooking flowers in pinks, mauves, and blues, so the green makes these colour pop. Thanks for such a great magazine that inspires and supports this great craft. Darlene

My backgrounds vary by rug but there is always a lot of slight color and texture variation and some sort of movement to make it more interesting. I love getting each RHM! Thank you so much for producing such a great magazine!

I think my favorite background colors are either black or white and I like to use several colors of each. That makes it more interesting to hook and I think it's more visually attractive.

Background colors depend on what you are Hooking. I have used blue green and also natural color wool.

Like Mother nature herself, I use a wild variety of colors in my backgrounds.

I'm partial to the blues, soft plaids or mixing various intensities.

Brown is probably my favourite background. It is warm to look at.

I am a new hooker, so I don't have many projects under my belt. If I look at my other fiber art projects, I would say my favorite background is sky blue as many of my depictions are of beautiful Torch Lake here in Michigan with fluffy clouds in the blue sky.

I think a shade of lilac would go well with the lovely wools pictured.

I like off white but am new to this and will learn what my favorite colors are.

Of course each project has its own best background, but the last two I did I used Dorr Mills lemongrass. It was just the perfect color for those two.
