Summer Abundance

Large, medium, and small - just the right size for the purpose

Summer Abundance

Can there be too many tomatoes? I think not. And apparently this grackle agrees with me, surrounded as she is by the bounty of late summer. Can there be too many rugs celebrating tomatoes? No, of course not. But I’ve not seen very many, and as tomatoes are the essence of August and September, they deserve a rug of their own. Or three.

What a fun project! The challenge was to make each piece stand on its own, with no reference to its sister rugs. After all, once they are dispersed, they will never be together again. So I considered this an exercise for me to learn about how size restricts or expands the way I hook. Starting with the largest rug allowed me to learn about the design, how it all goes together, and to figure out a few tricks for myself. I also learned about using the same color (red, red, and more red) in different values, shades, and tones.
