Nesting

Beyond Our Borders

By: Deb Lesher

I'm fascinated with bird's nests. Abandoned nests in bare trees are works of art; think of all the variations of shapes and textures. My first chance to examine a nest up close was when I found one that the wind had tossed to the side of the road. Since then, I've been taking photos of nests whenever I get the chance.

As part of a swap project between friends, I was able to combine my love of nests with my passion for rug hooking. We were each given an identical piece of wool to use in our swap. We could create anything in any style incorporating that wool. I designed and hooked a three-dimensional nest and attached it to a tree branch. And finding the perfect branch proved to be the most challenging part of the project!
