Hiding in the Pumpkin Patch/Cynthia Stratton Thompson

By: Story and Photography by Suzanne White

Hiding in the Pumpkin Patch, 18" x 12", on linen. Designed by Jo Ellen Dismukes of Lacey Jane Primitives, and hooked by Cynthia StrattonThompson, Mount Holly Springs, Pennsylvania, 2018.

Approximately five years ago, Cindy Thompson, my then neighbor, came to me and asked if I could introduce her to rug hooking. Cindy is a veteran of art shows and has a great eye. She spied the hooked rugs in my home and was interested in learning more about them. We share a love for primitives (and cats), so we have a lot in common.

I suggested that she choose a simple pattern, and we would color plan it from my stash. She chose a design featuring a pumpkin and a cat: not only is Cindy a hobby grower of some of the best pumpkins and gourds to be found on the East Coast, she is also a self-described cat lady with a small cat-rescue operation.
