Welcome to Spring

Butterflies, whimsical cats, mushrooms, and fungi—this issue of RHM is full of inspiration for the spring of the year. Let’s get inspired!

Do you like challenges and group projects? Then you will be intrigued by two articles from our readers. The first is from a group in Dallas—they hooked Texas postcards, and it is interesting to see how a group of rug-hooking friends celebrate their heritage. A group from Nova Scotia hooked an inspirational rug for a local hospice center; that rug offers peace and comfort to all who enter.

How about adding braiding to your bag of tricks? Anne-Marie Littenberg profiles Kris McDermet, an astounding artist who shows us how she creates art as she combines rug hooking and braiding.

Are you looking for a springtime project? Ellen Banker has designed a Welcome Mat pattern just for RHM. You will want to hook this one for your entryway. Green Mountain Hooked Rugs is thinking spring with butterflies, and “on the road” Janine Broscious celebrates creativity in her own way and shares the pattern with us.

Looking ahead, you know that our winter issues often show many winter- and Christmas-themed rugs. But the winter holidays are more than Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. Other faiths and ethnic groups celebrate their own holidays. I know that there must be hooked pieces out there celebrating these holidays, so let’s see what else we can find!

Have you hooked anything celebrating your Jewish heritage? I am certain that our readers have created some wonderful Hanukah rugs or wall hangings; if you have one, send a photo and a short description to me at dsmith@amprycp.com and we will show it in our November/December issue.

As you can tell, there is lots going on at RHM, and this issue is just the beginning. We wish you a creative and inspiring spring, filled with colorful loops and marvelous designs.
