In December 2016, I completed my Master of Fine Arts in painting at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. The most unusual aspect to this accomplishment is that I used rug hooking as my main medium. After several years away from school, I wanted to return to acquire my MFA for several reasons, and as a passionate rug hooker I wanted to raise this artistic form to an academic level of acceptance.
What I learned is that no matter what your medium is, the same technical art rules apply. Rug hooking is no exception.
