Q&A: Let's Meet Arounna from Bookhou

Q: How did you get started with punch needle? What are the steps you go through when planning a design?

A: I got started after I received Amy Oxford's punch needle as a gift. When I plan out my design I try my best to leave a small amount of negative space and try to fill the space with my shapes, I also try to give the background a contrasting colour so that it balances out all my elements.

Q: How do you combat creative blocks?

A: I try to work in other mediums like painting and drawing and during those moments an idea can come to fruition. I also like to use collage as a way to play and not feel like I have to come up with a specific idea or goal and usually that feeling of not having any pressure allows me to break through the creative blocks.

Q: Any punch needle tips or advice to share?

A: I think that punch needle is so versatile and I would advise on experimenting with different materials and weight and don't feel pressure to have an end goal in mind and enjoy the creative process of the technique.
