"The biggest rug I've made, and so satisfying. It's probably the only one I don't think I could part with because of the memories associated with it; the golden dogs were in honor of my wonderful Murphy who loved tennis balls almost as much as he loved me. It was the most ambitious rug I had designed and hooked at the time, inspired by various aspects of American folk art. The center was an homage to sailors' valentines, the diagonal square to Amish quilts, the hearts to frakturs, the hit or miss border to early hooked rugs, the lettering to schoolgirl  samplers and the dogs to weathervanes. I still love it. It's on the floor in my studio."
