"The turn of his head, the distant look in his eyes and all those spots drew me to this pattern. It was so much fun to hook the spots. I used many different darks – black, gray and brown – to give depth and interest and so they didn’t look flat. I also was starting to incorporate textures in my pieces as I hooked this rug, so that increased my interest and pleasure while hooking and the realism of the finished piece. This is still one of my favorite animal portraits."
