Hope Comes in an Array

Inspired by Alma

By: Charlie Dalton

YOU SHOULDN’T EVER DRAW THE SUN,” Judy Apple once told me in art class. Mrs. Apple was my ninth-grade art teacher at The Lexington School in Lexington, Kentucky. It was 1995, and I was a headstrong student who was being challenged artistically for the first time. Most of my childhood life had been spent on the athletic field, and it was Mrs. Apple that pushed me to a place in myself that I didn’t know was there.
