Hooking Three Generations of Master Boat Builders

We are more than two years into the pandemic and if nothing else, we have learned how important are the ties to family and friends. With this in mind, I took up a project that would bring me closer to my family. I grew up admiring my father’s photo wall of the many schooners built by his father and grandfather—three generations of master boat builders from New Brunswick, Canada. The great boats that sailed the Bay of Fundy.

The first boat I hooked was the Brunswick Maid: a 78-foot long and 15-foot wide sardine carrier launched in 1920. She was the third sardine carrier that George E. Richardson built for Connors Bros., and one of the fastest in their fleet of ships. She was also the last boat built out of the Richardson Boat shop and is the only surviving boat built by my great-grandfather.
