Artful Color: The World’s Most Wonderful Wool

And how to dye it

By: Wanda Kerr
The Worlds Most Wonderful Wool

This might be a lofty name for the type of dyed wool in the photo because sometimes it can be as ugly as sin. But it is more useful for those strange colors we sometimes need than any other wool I’ve dyed—by a mile. I call it The World’s Most Wonderful Wool for a good reason.
I can easily build a lot of colors and blended colors that serve me well when I want to hook something from the natural world. It makes excellent shadows, an iris in an eye, a reflecting window, a horizon. It can add a barrel of happiness to feathers, to geometric patterns, and even as an outline for Oriental-style patterns. We can even build a scene with one piece of this wonderful wool, if dyed with the end result in mind.
