I got these hooks with a bunch of hooking stuff at a yard sale. I'm so excited about getting in to this! There was cut wool (very thin) and bulk. These hooks don't look like the ones you are showing. Can you clear this up? Thank you so much! Ann

Thanks for explaining, great advice. All I have seen in UK are same size hooks so I need to research more.

Great explanation of relationship of hook shank size to size of cut. I have experimented with different hook shapes, but not size. As for the bent shank, great advice. I used to work as an ergonomist and our guideline was to take the angle of the wrist when using a tool and put the angle in the tool instead. Great advice. I bought a Menno hook a while back for its bent shaft, but the tip is rough and splits the backing when I pull it through. I'll try smoothing it with steel wool as you suggested. Thanks.
