Reader's Gallery
J is for Joker, 27" x 17", hand-cut, hand-dyed wool on rug warp. Designed and hooked by Jule Marie Smith, Ballston Spa, New York, 2004.
Beloved teacher, mistress of color, and extraordinary designer, Jule Marie Smith embodies the finest qualities of rug hooking talent and experience. Students throughout the United States and United Kingdom sing her praises. Experienced dyers strive to discover the secrets of her formulas. Her hooked rug borders provide inspiration to the entire rug hooking community, and everyone falls in love with the images of her finished creations.
I was familiar with Jule's work through Celebration and Rug Hooking magazine for years before she became my friend. When we first met, I had no idea my modest, lovely new acquaintance was the same person whose hooked rugs had already been inspiring me for years. It was an enormous pleasure to finally realize she was "that" Jule!
