When Sandra Brown knew that she and her family would be moving from 248 Outlook Drive, she decided to create a pictorial rug depicting one of her favorite views of their beloved home. This moonlit scene is one she often stopped to admire when walking the dog.
A former lighting designer, Sandra explains that the colors that we see are completely dependent upon the type of light that illuminates them. Accurately portraying in the same project the cool natural shades of the moonlight and the warm yellow hues of the porch light would be a demanding task. The colors we see under low-light conditions, such as at dusk, dawn, and in moonlight, have long held a particular fascination for her. The questions for her as a rug hooker were how to depict those colors in wool and how to dye for them.
