"This rug is based on a photograph of Mabel Irene Sloan, my paternal grandmother. Her mother, Mary Schofield Sloan, was a photographer in the 1800s and often used little Mabel as her model. When Mabel grew up, she married James Webber, and they lived in Ben Avon near Pittsburgh, PA."

"I’ve attached a photo of me with my first Celebration winner and the sepia photograph that was my inspiration. Our guild brought Elizabeth Black in for a couple of workshops, and Little Mabel was my project for one of the workshops. When I discussed the project with Elizabeth, I intended to include the covered bridge in the background, but she recommended concentrating on the little girl and leaving most of the background out of the picture. Since she was the 'expert,' I followed her advice."
