Sandra Brown started this rug years ago in a #3 cut at Asilomar Rug Camp under the tutelage of Ann Taylor. After hooking the center rose and two leaves, she put the rug away. Sandra wasn't motivated to finish it until her son announced his plans to marry and Sandra's daughter-in-law asked for a hooked rug as a wedding present.
Using basic color principles to keep the viewer's eyes moving around the rug and to keep the design balanced was Sandra's biggest challenge. While she wanted to repeat the colors in the scroll border and in the centerpiece, she also wanted the centerpiece to be more dominant than the border. Her wonderful design sense and persistence paid off, as we see in the exquisite color play throughout Palace Scroll.
