High-Flying Inspiration for an Award-Winning Work of Art

By: Donna Hrkman

People often ask me where I get my rug design ideas. I wish I had a magical bin filled with inspiration, but I don’t. So I rely on other sources all around me. Sometimes I see a photograph, or hear a song, or read something that triggers an image in my mind. Some of my ideas come from current events or news stories. I’m a native of Dayton, Ohio, and one of our claims to fame is being the home of the Wright Brothers. They grew up here, went into business with a bicycle shop, and went on to design the first manned airplane, named the Wright Flyer
