Walking the Camino
A Pilgrimage Inspires Two Hooked Rugs
The Camino de Santiago, or “The Way of St. James,” is an almost 500-mile pilgrimage across northern Spain, beginning in the foothills of the Pyrenees, and ending in Santiago de Compostela. Featured in the 2010 movie “The Way,” the Camino de Santiago is becoming increasingly popular in recent years, but pilgrims have been making the trek across Spain since the ninth century. Carie O’Banion and Linda Norris are two rug hookers who walked the Camino at almost the exact same time in the fall of 2017. While they have never met in person, they “hooked up” via the Facebook page “American Pilgrims on the Camino.”
