"Lizzie was designed to be a 'friendship rug,' to be hooked with members of a huge group, each of whom was going to hook a block on the design. The group disbanded before even one block was hooked. Lizzie sat around for quite some time before I decided to hook her for myself. The squares are what was left of the thirty or so blocks created for others to hook! The only friend that hooked a block was my very good friend Deborah Jones, who hooked her pet chicken in a block in the tail. The rug was at first intended to be for my family room floor, a huge rectangular creation. A student said 'Why don’t you hook just the gecko?' I never looked back! Still she is a big girl—64” x 84”. She lives on my studio floor, which is orange cement. Perfect!"
