Still Life #8—The Bowl of Onions
Dimensions: 16 1/2" x 21"
Materials: #3-cut wool on linen
Designed and hooked by Carol Koerner, Bethesda, Maryland, 2011.
Featured in: Celebration XXII
"I designed this hooking before giving my older daughter the antique salt-glazed bowl that once belonged to my husband’s grandmother. An old tea towel and beautiful onions completed the picture. The onions were hooked with leftover wool, dyed for skin shades used in Dress Rehearsal. What was important in hooking this piece was to really see the many shades of color and stripes in the onion skins and to hook them directionally. Highlights give the skins a realistic shine. The dark background makes the subject matter stand out. This piece is on the cover of the RHM Jan/Feb 2017 issue."
