"This rug followed Diamond in the Square; I was (and remain) obsessed by American quilt designs. I had no idea what the palette would be when I began, but it seemed to fall into place. The feather was fussy to hook, pulling just a few loops and changing colors; I hook to relax and usually want hooking to flow more smoothly, but the result was so satisfying I was glad I stuck with it. I tried a dozen different wools before hitting on the coral; when it's right, you know it instantly. I designed the rug specifically for the hearth in my living room, but since leaving that house it has occupied many spots; runner on the dining room table, pad on a living room bench, & most recently hung vertically on a narrow sliver of wall in my front hall."
