Mallard Duck

Dimensions: 26 1/2" x 20 1/2"
Materials: #4-cut wool on linen
Designed and hooked by Karen Maddox, Kerrville, Texas, 2000
Featured in: Celebration XI

"The colors of a male mallard duck are so eye-catching that I wanted to see if I could get the look in wool! Most of the rug was hooked with wool from my scraps. The grass took a lot of different greens, but it was the most fun to hook! Each strip needed to be a different green to get the effect of grass. Even in the upper sky background, I tried to keep the movement going by changing colors of strips often. The mostly dead tree slants down to the duck to give the design more rhythm."
