"Shah Abbas was the first rug for which I dyed all the wool myself: dip dyes, spot dyes, swatches and abrashing. I had come across formulae by a Nova Scotia teacher of rug hooking named Barbie Baker-Dykens who created transitional swatches that were different. I chose one of these formulae, which went from dark violet to light shades of lavender, blue and turquoise in the middle to dark turquoise for the flowers in this rug. The swatch allowed me to hook the flowers in alternating colours, and I think it is the colours in this rug that I like most about it."
