As a quilter, Jan Winter's favorite type of piecework is applique. The pattern for Nostalgia reminded her of the floral quilt blocks she likes to create.
Jan dyed all the wool for the rug except for the six-pointed star motifs (2nd row, right, and bottom row, left). She rehooked those elements twice--first with two solid colors and then with dip dyes--before she decided that she liked the effect of two contrasting swatches from Jane Olson.
